Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe with all the DLC, you can now get enough assets in single-player. These days, I'm not sure it's necessary to up your Readiness to get the "best" endings anymore.

If it hadn't felt like I "had to" play it after otherwise scouring the galaxy to get all the War Assets I could, I'd probably have enjoyed the multiplayer more.
